According to new research, people who have high blood pressure or heart problems should avoid consuming energy drinks. In a small study published in the Annals of Pharmacotherapy, researchers found that healthy adults who drank two cans a day of a popular energy drink experienced an increase in their blood pressure and heart rate. Investigators say that while this jump in cardiovascular levels is insignificant in healthy people, it could pose a risk for people with a heart-related condition. Most energy drinks contain caffeine and taurine, both of which have been shown to have a direct impact on cardiac function.
