Defibrillators may not help women: study

Researchers in Michigan have found that implantable defibrillators designed to help protect against deadly heart rhythms may not help women who have advanced heart failure. The devices work by detecting dangerous heart arrhythmia and delivering a shock that restores the heartbeat to a more normal rhythm. But in a recent study, scientists found that the benefit of these devices for women with heart failure is significantly less than the benefit for men.  Read full story >
