(HealthDay News) -- With a doctor's approval, exercise is a great choice for everyone, including seniors. But older people must listen to what their bodies tell them about how much they can handle.

Here are warning signs that you have done too much and that you should contact your doctor without delay, courtesy of the American Academy of Family Physicians:

  • Chest pain or pressure in your chest.
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness.
  • Difficulty breathing, or severe shortness of breath.
  • Balance problems.
  • Nausea.
  • Sore or strained muscles, especially if the pain lasts for several days.
