The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the heart drug Micardis for people ages 55 and older who are at high risk for heart attacks and stroke, but who cannot take ACE inhibitors. The FDA also approved a new drug that is a combination of Micardis and the calcium channel blocker Norvasc. This combination drug--called Twnysta--is designed to prevent high blood pressure when used alone or as an add-on treatment with another blood pressure med.
