FDA Warns of Heart Risks of Diet Drug Meridia

Officials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are warning people who have a history of certain kinds of heart disease not to use the weight-loss drug Meridia because it can boost these patients' risk of heart attack and stroke. FDA officials say people with a history of coronary artery disease, stroke or transient ischemic attack ("mini-stroke"), heart arrhythmias, peripheral arterial disease, congestive heart failure, or uncontrolled high blood pressure should avoid taking Meridia. The drug's maker has also agreed to change Meridia's label to include these warnings.  Read full story >
