Heart Stem Cells Closer to Being Used in Humans

Though stem cell treatments are still in their beginning stages, scientists say they are moving closer to being able to use these experimental therapies to treat cardiovascular disease in humans. Researchers presented many of their studies into stem cell use last November at the annual scientific sessions of the American Heart Association, studies that showed that stem cells were able to improve heart function and reverse damage to the heart. Though these trials involved only basic science, scientists say these experiments suggest that stem cells could offer hope for treating cardiovascular disease, the number one killer of men and women in the United States.  Read full story >
