Starlix, Diovan Not Effective in High-Risk Patients: Study

Results from a new large study have found that the diabetes drug Starlix (nateglinide) is not effective at slowing diabetes progression or reducing the risk of serious heart trouble in people at high risk for both heart disease and diabetes. Also in the study, researchers found that the blood pressure drug Diovan (valsartan) reduced the progression of diabetes by 14 percent when compared to a placebo, but it did not reduce the risk of serious cardiac problems such as stroke and heart attack in these patients.
