Television anchor Barbara Walters has announced that she will undergo a heart valve replacement operation that will keep her off the air until autumn. The anchor, who is 80 years old, said the valve problem was found during an echocardiogram. Doctors say Walters' prognosis is excellent, since only about one to two percent of patients who undergo this type of surgery--known as an isolated aortic valve replacement--die from the procedure.
