Sugar--Not Just Salt--Boosts Blood Pressure

According to new research, eating too many sweets or drinking too many sugary sodas can increase blood pressure. In fact, the scientists found drinking 2.5 cans or more of non-diet soda per day--or consuming an equivalent amount of fructose from other foods--increases a person's risk of hypertension by at least 30 percent. This study also found that this link between sweets and high blood pressure was found regardless of people's other dietary habits, including carbohydrate, sodium, or overall calorie intake.  Read full story >
