According to a new large-scale study, people who suffer a heart attack and undergo angioplasty and other procedures to open blocked arteries are receiving these treatments more quickly and more safely than ever before. The study also found that patients are now more aware of the signs of a heart attack and are going to the hospital more quickly for help. The researchers add that hospitals' ability to better gather data on the quality of their care may also account for some of the signs of improvement.
