Generics as Good as Pricey New Blood Pressure Meds: Study

Results from a long-term, large study suggest that expensive, brand-name blood pressure drugs are no better at preventing cardiovascular disease than older, generic diuretics. In the study, researchers found that patients who took diuretics fared about the same as those taking a calcium channel blocker or an ACE inhibitor. Patients who took diuretics also showed fewer deaths than those on the other drugs.
