Poorest Have the Highest Heart Disease Risk: Study

How much money people make plays a more important role in determining their risk for heart disease than their race or ethnicity, a new study has found. Researchers analyzed data from more than 12,000 people in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and found that the poorest people have the highest risk of heart disease. Investigators say lifestyle differences may play a role in these disparities, since poorer people are more likely to be obese, to smoke, and to exercise less.
