New research published in the medical journal Circulation suggests that African Americans have a higher risk of developing life-threatening blood clots after receiving a drug-coated stent than other ethnicities. In fact, the scientists found that African-American patients were three times more likely than non-African Americans to experience clotting after the implantation of one of these stents. This was true even after researchers adjusted for other clotting risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or kidney problems.
