Some Blood Pressure Meds Don't Mix with Antibiotics

Researchers say older people who are taking calcium channel blockers to reduce their blood pressure have an increased risk of developing dangerously low pressure if they take certain antibiotics. The antibiotics--erythromycin and clarithromycin--have been linked to a substantially higher risk of being hospitalized for low pressure, the study's lead author reported. The scientists say a "cousin" of these antibiotics called azithromycin is a safer choice for patients taking calcium channel blockers.  Read full story >
