French researchers say high blood pressure and high cholesterol are associated with losses in mental abilities and memories in middle age. In their study, the scientists found that study participants who had poorer cardiovascular health were more likely to do worse on tests of memory and mental ability than people who did not had better heart health. In fact, a 10 percent higher cardiovascular risk score was linked to a 2.8 percent lower score on memory tests among men and 7.1 percent lower score among women.
