Propranolol Recently had dosage increased

By Sam Friday, December 07, 2012

I was diagnosed with Hypertension about a year or so ago after at that time a very stressful period at work and health (Gallbladder pains and eventual surgery)
I was actually sent home from work in a very strange state, confused, not able to speak co-herently or pay attention to anyone and a big headache

I was prescribed 20mg of Propranolol a day.
i have had checks since and been told that my pressure seems ok due to the tablets.

The surgeon who did my gallbladder op seemed a bit surprised I was on them and said I didn't need them.

There have been days when I have forgotten to take them and the next day I will be acting like everything is a big issue and get quite tearful and angry!

I have always been a very calm and laid back person so this reaction confuses me.
I am also a sufferer of migraines, since i was very young.
mostly these days I have the occular migraines.

recently though I had been suffering with a temp due to water infection and my head felt a bit strange. I described it to my partner as just not feeling right and felt disorientated.

I fell asleep and when I awoke the left side of my head felt numb inside and my left ear felt like it needed popping.
i went to bed but woke up a cpl hours later with what I can only describe as skull splitting pain!

The doctor has now increased my tablets to 40mg a day.

I know that these tablets are often prescribed for migraines.

But i was hoping to come off these as soon as I can.

Most of my friends and family say I cant stop them myself as its very dangerous to stop a beta blocker.

I am also a big girl (UK SIZE 18 )so I know I also need to help myself by reducing my weight. I did Boxercise for a while but read online it wasn't a good exercise programme for someone with high blood pressure!

Do you need to limit salt to lower blood pressure?
