high blood pressure due to too much sex?

By colonelwind Tuesday, February 12, 2008

My boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship. So, when we get to see each other we have a sex numberous times during the period of our visits. last time he was at my house for 4 days with sex at least two times a day. My grandpa was checking our blood pressures for the fun of it and Cash's was really high for our age. So, when he got home he went to the hospital to get it checked and it was still high. Now he has to come in twice a week to get it checked. Can too much sex have caused his blood pressure to rise?

Dear Colonelwind: Thanks so much for your post. I'm a moderator for this site and though not medically trained, I’ll try to help find answers to your questions or at least guide you in the right direction.

One of the first things you should do is check with a doctor. It's really important to get a proper evaluation and diagnosis from a medical doctor. If you do not have a doctor you can use our locator to help.

In the meantime, I searched the site and I think you should read the information on the Basics of High Blood Pressure. There is a lot of information to get you ready for your doctor. And though I could not find any specific reference to sex and high blood pressure, it does say that an increase in physical activity can sometimes affect blood pressure.

The other thing to read, if in fact he is diagnosed with high blood pressure, is The First 48 Hours. This talks about what the next steps toward recovery might be for him.

I hope this helps. Please write back and post here - let us know how he is doing.

All the best, sue
