The decision of the US government about keeping the blueprint of the Lab-bred bird flu in a closet is debatable. The blueprint is not disclosed in fear of it being taking reference from it and misusing it. On the other hand, NIH and others are worried about it impeding research works if left unpublished.
The H5N1 virus has been truly creating panic all over the society due to its burgeoning nature. Today there are vast sections of populations that are afflicted with this virus. Initially, it was transmitted from the birds alone to the human beings. The transmission becomes more active when it got contagious spreading from human to human. There have been varied studies at present carried on the same by the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB) and other associated bodies, sources from the NIH (National Institute of Health) say in its published article on 20thDecember.
Studies from Europe and US mention how the situation may worsen if they transmit from one species to another compared to the present. With many chances of such instance taking place, there is a need for caution.
After loads of debates and discussion, it has been observed that the study will be published without mentioning the details of the way this replica is being made to prevent its misuse by the wrong hands. Also, it will be observed that anyone who wishes to have complete access to it has to provide details about themselves and assure that the reason is genuine. In case these genetically engineered viruses spread among ferrets and other such creatures, it might lead to a threatening situation.
Dr. Philip Cambel in support of the research being published has stated that there is a need to publish any scientific research as researches and public deserve to know about it. Besides, it enhances public health. Though with so much of support of it being published mounting up, the blueprint surely has chances of being published. However, nobody has an idea of how much details will be disclosed.
