Erratic blood pressure

By Patti Sunday, February 10, 2008

I'm 70, female, and I've never had high blood pressure until a few weeks ago. I had been on a non-working thyroid medicine and although it was changed and it's now working fine. My doctor gave me 300 mg Tekturna for my blood pressure which had skyrocketed to 171/92. Now, four weeks later, my blood pressure is running from 102/62 to 111/ 82. I decided not to take my pill for the blood pressure as it would make me too weak. What's going on? Anyone have this problem?

Thanks for your post Patti.  I'm a moderator for this site and will try to help answer your question.  I;m not medically trained, but can show you the information we have available on our site.

First, you really should stay in contact with your doctor about what is happening.  It really can be complicated if you take yourself off prescribed medicine.  Check again with your physician and see if there isnt something else that might help with the weakness you are experiencing.

In the meantime, you can check out  the information we have on high blood pressure.  there's lots of it - everything from the basics, the causes, treatments and more.
