Sudden Rise in Blood Pressure

By jetdreams Wednesday, April 02, 2008
I have always had normal blood pressure in the range of 112-120/65-70.  I hadn't checked it in a few months and all of a sudden it has been in the range of 136-149/85-90.  I'm a bit concerned as to the reason for this.  I've been feeling fine. Does anyone have some ideas as to why this might be.  I've always been very healthy my whole life.  I am a 54 yr. old femaile.

Hello and thanks so much for your post.  I am the moderator of the site and though not medically trained, I will try to help answer your questions.

First, I will recommend you see you doctor as soon as possible.  He/She can give you the proper medical evaluation you need in order to determine what might be happening.

In the meantime, I searched our site and was able to find a few items that might be of interest to you.

The first is The Basics of High Blood Pressure.  It covers what hypertension is, the different types and symptoms, etc.

As well, I was able to find a possible answer to your question of why a sudden rise in BP. See more in our Questions and Answers section - Sudden Rise in Blood Pressure

Finally, if you are diagnosed with High Blood Pressure, you might want to read our Just Diagnosed section.

Hope this helps - keep us posted.

All the best, sue (moderator)
