  1. Blood pressures meds not helping!

My name is Lisa and I am 36 years old.  I smoke a pack a day and I am a heavy beer drinker (more than 4 per day).  I have been on BP meds for 8 to 9 years.  Initial dosage 50 mg of atenolol and 37.5 mg of a diuretic.  This dosage worked until a year and a half ago.  I've changed medicines and dosages several times and I am becoming increasing frustrated.  I have seen BP numbers that scare me, the highest being 178/117 which happened last summer of last year. I was on Avalide at the time.  I went to the dr yesterday on 100mg of atenolol and 10mg of plendil.  BP 147/108.  He increased the plendil to 20mg.   I am cutting back on the smoking and drinking but I have not seen any results.  I just don't know what to do.  I have made an appointment to see another dr on Friday.  What's happening?

Recommend you go to bloodpressureline at Yahoo Groups for others with the same problem.

  2. High blood pressure from a life insurance point of view!

    Dr Gandelman,

It goes without saying that life insurance companies are really looking for the same thing in clients as you look for in patients. Compliance with medication and other health suggestions lead to good control. For you this is a healthier patient and for life insurance companies, a substantially better risk. The "Silent Killer" doesn't have to control a person's life. To learn more about how to get the best life insurance rates if you have high blood pressure, go to www.hinermangroup.com.

I am a 57 year old female with very high blood pressure.  I have been hospitalized twice with pressure of 225 over 140.  I am very thin, very athletic and have a very healthy diet.  I currently take 60 mil. of Benicar per day and while it helps a good day is still 165 over 90.  I have tried every other drug and/or combination thereof that is on the market.  Either the side effects are too extreme or it does not work for me.  I have shortness of breath and the beginnings of heart problems.  With the exception of arthritic like symptoms caused I believe by the Benicar I am healthy.  I have also tried specialists in this field and no one seems to have any better advice.  By the way my stress level is low to average.  So I am hoping you will be able to advise me.  I seem to fall into a small group that whose pressure does not respond to anything.  Can you help?

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Tam

  7. My success in beating high BP.

I found out last week that I had high blood pressure (150/109). The Dr said he wanted to monitor me for a month. My wife is a distributor for nutritional products and following her recommendations, four days later, I measured at 123/69. No kidding. If you are interested in hearing more of what worked for me; send me a message.

I had stage 1 hypertension and needed to get it down because I have had an occasional bout of atrial fibrillation. I was put on a beta blocker and calcium channel blocker. I have found that there are usually alternative remedie for many problems so I did some research. I check my blood pressure each day and at this time I am cutting my meds in half and my blood pressure has been dropping. I do several things.

    1. I found that losing a few pounds has made a big difference.

    2. I drink allot of water with a little salt in it (check out the water cure on the internet)

    3. I tried some celery stalks a few time and found that it imediately lowered my blood pressure. I now take celery seed extract capsules  that I get at the health food store. I am not sure if it works as well as the celery but it apparently has the same chemical that is known to lower blood pressure.

I don't know why most many people do not consider alternative medicines. Some are snake oil but many work as well or better that prescription meds. Just do a little research and try some things.

People need to understand how important it really is to be within the healthy blood pressure range as it is the silent killer.

I agree that using a blood pressure monitor at home is a good way to check your blood pressure as often as you want that helps you control it better. It can also warn you if there's something wrong with your health before it becomes more serious symptom.
