Welcome to the High Blood Pressure Blog

  • Hello, I am excited to be part of the HighBloodPressure community and to help you better understand and lower high blood pressure. My philosophy on healthcare is that a patient who understands, in plain language, the reasoning behind medical decisions is more likely to succeed in their goals. Specifically, I explain my rational behind each medication I prescribe my patients, including the pros and cons of each pill. I find that this approach usually succeeds in reaching a target blood pressure.

I became a physician to apply my background in science and public health to help others. In so doing, I can both teach patients about their bodies and, in turn, learn about the infinite variations between people. I have yet to find two of the same. Cardiology was attractive to me for both its complexity and simplicity. The heart has a nervous system, a vascular system, and a muscular system that begin their synchronized function from the first weeks of conception to the day we die. And yet, all the heart really does is pump blood. Fascinating!

Through the HighBloodPressure forum’s question and answers I hope to alleviate patients’ anxiety with hypertension and provide a better understanding of the hundreds of options available for treatment. Additionally, I hope to convey the countless new developments and advances in management of high blood pressure, in simple language, to the forum’s readers.

I encourage you to submit questions and stories about high blood pressure. I’ll do my best to address each one.
