I have recently received results of a 24 hr blood pressure monitor which resulted in slightly higher systolic results and normal diastolic results. Doctor has prescribed a mild diuretic - I have a home measurement kit which sometimes shows normal and slighter higher results on the systolic and normal to low on the diastolic (this can at times be as low as 65). Prior to this test I was precribed Fenderil which brought my blood pressure way down to 99/44. On this basis should I be taking medication- though I have poor kidney function in one kidney all blood tests confirm they are working 100%.

Dear Perry:
Thanks so much for your post. I am a moderator for this site and though not medically trained, I can try and help you find information or at least guide you in the right direction.
It sounds like you are working closely with your doctor on this issue. This is really important. Having a professional medical evaluation and prescribed treatment plan is one of the crucial things to overcoming high-blood pressure.
There are alot of other things you can do, as well, to try and lower your rates. You might read our section on managing your high blood pressure. You should also check out the Causes and Risks.
Finally, you may mostly be interested in treatment information.
Hope this helps. Please come back and let us know how things are going.
All the best, Sue
