My husband is worrying me

By Wendy Monday, February 02, 2009

Hello everyone.  My husband was dx with high blood pressure back in Nov or so.  His pressure was 155/110. Yeah I know! The doc said that is was high and looked back and said it had been high in the past but he was always sick those times.  he gave him an ACE med to start taking and had to go for blood work.  I will add that the reason I got him to go to the doctors this time is he was soooo tired, and headaches everyday. he would get dizzy when stand up. My husband is not a light man at all :), he is 6'2" and about 260 or so. Anyways we went right away to have the blook work done.  Since then the doc called said his triglycerides are very high.  He wants him to do another blook work to see if change since meds.  He did do another look at blood pressure in Jan and it was the same.  I problem is that I cant get him to do the blood work. he doesnt want to change his eatting, or exercise.  He says he doesnt care.  I know that sounds very bad, but you have to know my husband, he well likes to be lazy.  He works hard when he is at work, NYS correctional officer, but likes to not do much after that.  I think alot of this has to do with his blood pressure.  he says i am just raising his blood pressure becuase I keep asking him about it.  I am so worried and dont know what to do!!

Unfortunately your husband is on his way to dialysis. I had high blood presser, but I did not anything about the risks. Last May 6, 2008; 8 million people died premature death from HBP according to the New York Times. I was very shock when I found out about this. I was on dialysis for 10 years which was from HBP. Most of the time I felt fine and the reason why is because HBP is the only disease that you don’t have any symptoms. That’s why it s called the Silent Killer, please go to YouTube and look at this video, I belong to this group.. Also I received a kidney transplant June, 2006. Good Luck, I hope your husband go back because sometimes the doctors can prevent the kidney failure but once the creatine levels are low the only option is dialysis.

Hi Wendy, my blood pressure was 153/93 yesterday @ doc's office visit. She right away upped my bp meds . Today it is 135/85--DRASTIC CHANGE was necessary. I need to exercise more and change dietary habits if I dont want this, please tell hubby to think about reality of a possible stroke or heart attack, which would not be a good thing. Perhaps he may not need to remain on meds if he acts now to lower bp. All the best to you both

Well I have high bp and I exercise really brisk walking at least 4 or 5 times a week for 1-2 hours each time. I am 50 yr old male . I weigh 139 lbs and am 5 ft 4. The doctor says I am a perfect weight, so he told me not to loose any weight. Well the walking has caused me to loose it anyway and I told the doctor that I dont care if I loose weight or not, Im not going to stop walking I love it. It reduces stress for me. Think about using walking as a stress reliever. Find a beautiful place to walk then you will enjoy walking all the time. It is my favorite hobby. My high bp is hereditary according to the doctor so me being skinny dont  help me out . Exercise and diet like I do. Eat low fat foods and watch out for the red meat. The doctor told me to eat lots of fish. I love it. I really love the lifestyle change. I may have high bp but I enjoy all the things that I have changed from. Eat low fat exercise, Quit smoking and enjoy life. It will make you feel better even if you are stuck taking the meds for high bp for the rest of your life. I love the change.
