Q: Is Micardis a better hbp med. than Atenolol?

I was put on Atenolol 50mg per day two years ago for HBP- 157/100 and palpitations. It started working immediately. Recently, I have noticed that I am very tired after work but thought it could be due to my age, I am 56, and menopausal. I mentioned this to my Dr who recommended changing HBP med. to Micardis. My last blood work was fine except for my cholesterol, it was up. He doesn"t feel I need med. for that. I've read that Micardis can elevate cholesterol and doesn't reduce the palpitations that I used to have. Also, what about Micardis being a diuretic? HELP!

Hi Grace,

Your physician is really the best source to discuss the pros and cons of your medication options since he/she knows your medical history. However, a pharmacist would be another good resource to discuss the effects of the different medications.
