I want to know if high blood pressure of 145/100 is dangerous, and can it make you dizzy?

    Hi Bethan:

American Heart Association Recommendations are as follows:
Normal-Systolic: less than 120 and Diastolic: less than 80
Prehypertension-Systolic: 120-139 or Diastolic: 80-89 High Blood Pressure
Stage I-Systolic: 140-159 or Diastolic: 90-99 High Blood Pressure
Stage II-Systolic: 160 or higher or Diastolic: 100 or higher
Hypertensive Crisis (Emergency Care Needed)-Systolic: Higher than 180 or Diastolic: Higher than 110.

You blood pressure is a concern and needs addressed by a physician.  A lot of times elevated blood pressure doesn't have symptoms, that is why it is known as the "silent killer."  Usually lightheadedness and dizziness is linked with hypotension. But I would discuss your symptoms with your doctor and see what he/she says.  Here is further information on symptoms and hypertension.

    Best Regards,

    Tara, RN
