Q: Scared to start taking blood pressure medication

I am scared to start taking high blood pressure medication. It was prescribed when I went in for an emergency gall bladder removal which showed I also had pancreatitus. Wouldn't your blood pressure naturally be elevated under the circumstances of this ordeal? I don't want to start all the medications that doctors seem to push on us.

Hi AvoidDrugs,

It is possible your elevated blood pressure was exacerbated by the situation. I recommend consulting your physician to discuss your concerns and options. Maybe you can agree to monitoring your blood pressure for a period of time to determine your average reading and if medication is really necessary. I also encourage you to make diet/lifestyle changes to promote a lower blood pressure.

All the best,
