Q: What would cause my normally very low blood pressure to become very high? Stress? Medications?

I have had extremely low blood pressure my entire life.  I do a cardiovascular workout for one hour five or six days a week.  I recently began taking Cymbalta 60 mg. for anxiety.  After two weeks on Cymbalta my blood pressure sky rocketed.  I have been off Cymbalta for four weeks and my blood pressure remains high.  Both work and home are stressful.  Could the stress be the cause?

Maria m,

Thanks for your question.

I have been unable to find any listing that Cymbalta can cause High Blood Pressure.  This does not mean that it's not possible.  I've always felt that any medication can cause any side effect in any individual.  Certainly the stress at work and home can be a factor.  I suggest you contact your physician for an appointment to have your pressure checked and to discuss whether the cymbalta may be a factor in your blood pressure changes.

Best wishes.
