Melissa,
Thanks for your post. It sounds like your headache was caused by your elevated blood pressure. But it also apparent that you are not taking your medication as prescribed. The most important aspect in the treatment of high blood pressure is taking your medication on a regular basis which doctors call compliance. It is common for the pressure to continue to rise when not on medication. Then, when the drug is taken, it takes time to take effect. I am actually surprised that your pressure returned to normal by the next morning. Certainly, your stress can be playing a role here.
Be sure to have regular follow-up appointments with your doctor to monitor your pressure. Try to take you medication the same time each day, which will decrease the chance of forgetting. Also, please search through this website for other tips on controlling your blood pressure such as lifestyle changes to include a regular exercise program and a healthier diet. Try to minimize your salt intake to 2300 mg of sodium per 24 hours which equals about 1 teaspoon of salt. If your read content labels, the salt content, expressed as sodium will be listed in milligrams. Avoid processed foods, "fast food" restaurants, canned soups and vegetables, and try to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.
Should you have another episode of high pressure, accompanied by a headache, be sure to contact your doctor for an earlier appointment.
Best wishes.
