Q: ER vs XL
Can anyone give me the comprehensive difference between Metropolol Succinate ER and Metropolol XL?
Thanks for your question.
Metoprolol (Brand name - Toprol) is available in two forms. Metoprolol tartrate is the standard formulation. It is also available in a long acting form, Metoprolol succinate, which is manufactured by several different companies that produce generic drugs. Depending on the company, it may be called Metoprolol ER, XL, or even SA, which stands for extended release or sustained acting. There is no difference between these two formulations other than the name.
I hope this has been helpful.
