Q: My 83 yr. old mother has only 5% kidney function, Alzheimer's, and high blood pressure..can she last

How long can one live with only 5% kidney function...? my mother is 83. 2yrs. ago she had 11% kidney function...so it has been a gradual down hill struggle.  It is wearing on my dad...We have her home and get her up an going every day...but it is getting to be a struggle...

The Renal specialist has her blood tested every 10 days...and if her red count is low she gets a procrit shot...and she also takes a vitamin D supplement...plus high BPmeds.

The Alzheimer's is taking her mind...and that is harder to deal with than the kidney failure.  It is very hard on my dad...they have been together for 68 years.
