Q: I have low pulse (45 ~ 48) with high blood pressure 170/90 -- 170/83 etc. I am 78, The last cartoid artery scan said I have vessels of 57 yr old. I am able to do hard manual work. No heart attack.

I am under Dr care. Why is heart rate low with high blood pressure?? I give Blood every two months: Blood Chlosterol is about 109 to 115 e-mail rottertex@sbcglobal.net

Hi Ed,

 

It is fairly typical for pulse rate to be decreased with a high blood pressure and vice versa (high pulse rate with low blood pressure). However,  there are cases when patients have a dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system that cause heart rate to increase as blood pressure increases.

 

If you haven't already, you may want to implement the DASH diet to see if it will impact your blood pressure levels.
