high diastolic pressure

L.
09/04/09

I have an artificial aortic valve and last check with my cardiologist my b.p. was 134/88.  He said to restart my enalapril 2.5mg daily.  He wanted my diastolic to be 75 or lower.  Recently I have been stressed and my bp was elevated so I increased my enalapril to 5mg bid to lower the bp.  Today it was 105/78 so it seems the enalapril is lowering the systolic fine but not the diastolic.  I don't want to increase the dose more as I am light headed now.  He gave me a prescription for Lisenopril to use when I finished my enalapril.  should I switch now?  Will Lisenopril decrease the diastolic bp better?

Thanks,

Lynn

Hi L,

I recommend you discuss your concerns with your physician.  If you are not happy with yoru current treatment plan there is nothing wrong with seeking a second opinion.  Also, I encourage you to make diet and lifestyle changes to lower your blood pressure, so you are less dependent on medication.

All the best,
