Hello harish,

I'm guessing that your blood pressure 134/96, as 134/196 is not a possible reading.   By definition, systolic BP (the top number by convention in the US) must be less the diastolic pressure (bottom number).

Exercise is an excellent way to lower blood pressure, as is losing weight.  Also, try to avoid adding salt to your the diet and stop smoking if you smoke.

Finally, if these lifestyle modifications don't lower your BP enough, there are a large number of medications which can help lower your pressure.  A diuretic like hydrochlorothiazide is an excellent first choice, as it is cheap, effective, and has very few side effects.

To your health,

Neil MD
