Q: 20year old with blood pressure of 153/90. concern??

my son is 20 year, and his blod pressure readin is 153/80, and pulse rate is 78. Do I need to be concern?

Hi Jim,

 

Yes, anytime your average blood pressure is equal to or greater than 120/80 cardiovascular risk is increased.

 

Ideally, blood pressure should be less than 120/80.  A blood pressure reading between 120-139/80-89 is considered pre-hypertension, and greater than 140/90 is hypertension (high blood pressure). 

 

I recommend your son take steps to reduce his blood pressure.

 

Also, discuss his situation with his MD for the most accurate recommendations.
