Sharon,   Thanks for your question.    High blood pressure is a well known side effect of the pill.  I would allow your body to cycle through at least three periods to be sure its effects are gone and your natural rhythm and chemistry have been restored.   However, your present pressure is quite high.  I would suggest some treatment with monthly watches of your pressure as the pill has been discontinued.  After the three months, then your medication could be withdrawn slowly while observing your blood pressure.  If your pressure normalizes then close observation only would be needed.  However, if your pressure is still high, then reinstitution of therapy is warranted.   Best wishes.   Martin Cane, M.D.
