High blood pressure

we have been told our 6yr old son has high blood pressure which we have 2 monitor the reading given was 100/62 please can you tell me if this is high and what the normal reading his for a child his age thanks

Hi Malco,

 

Average blood pressure for a 6 year-old boy is around 96/55 mm Hg.

 

Here is a link to a chart of children's blood pressure - http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/guidelines/hypertension/child_tbl.pdf 

 

You can see looking at the chart (which may be confusing!), if your son is tall (i.e. 95th percentile) average blood pressure increases to 100/57 mm Hg.
