How long does it take for blood pressure medicine to start working?

I'm taking Norvasic.  I did not remember to take my medicine until late Saturday night and forgot to take it Sunday.  I took the medicine for the first time Monday afternoon.  My pressure has been up, needless to say.  How long should it be before I get concerned.  This morning it was 131/98 and this afternoon its 157/99.  How long does it take to get back into the system?  Thanks!

Hi Ybrown,

I recommend contacting your physician about your missed doses, elevated blood pressure, and concerns.  How quickly the medication will begin to lower your blood pressure is dependent on your situation and dosage.

Thanks Lisa.  I went to the doctors on Wednesday and ended up in the hospital.  My potassium and phosphorus levels were low, which added to the high blood pressure and elevated pulse rate.  I was released on Friday.  No more miss doses for me thank you :O).  I know that I need to take better care of myself for my little ones.  Thanks for your response Lisa.  Take care!
