Q: My heart rate is 48 bpm and my blood pressure is 163/77. How can one be so healthy and the other through the roof? Is this a problem?

I am 25 years old and relatively active. I run 4 days a week. I am not in great shape, about 15 lbs overweight. I have had a low heart heart for a long time and when I exercise a lot it creeps below 40. My blood pressure has been in the 150s-160s for quite a while now. I wonder if the low heart rate necessitates a higher blood pressure?

Hi Cam,

It's fairly common for blood pressure and heart rate to have an inverse relationship, when blood pressure is elevated heart tends to drop and vice versa.
