Q: NUMBNESS LEFT SIDE OF BODY FOR 6 MONTHS AFTER BROKEN TIBIA OPERATION ON RIGHT LEG

Doctor has taken blood tests only shown high cholestrial

now I have had spine xray awaiting result

my left arm is painful when i raise it this has become worse over the months.

Iam 55 years old no serious illness before.

I have no vision problems and no signs of confusion

DAVID,

 

Thanks for your question.  It sounds like the symptoms you are experiencing are unrelated to your prior operation 6 months ago.  I agree that you need further evaluation and the X-rays are a good start.  Should that be normal, then you need a neurological work up which should include an MRI of the brain, and possibly the spine if this also proves to be normal.  A referral to a neurologist would be a good idea, as they are trained to look for unusual problems not normally seen by general physicians.

 

As to your question about MS (Multiple Sclerosis), this is a possibility, though most patients have a history of neurologic symptoms in different locations at different times.  Also, most people who develop MS are under the age of 50.  The MRI studies would be helpful here as MS can occur in the brain as well as the spine.  And again, the neurologist is the best person to help in making this diagnosis, as well as other neurologic problems.
