First of all, never change your medication without your physician's knowledge and input. He knows your situation and has recently made medication changes. Patients sometimes endanger themselves when they make their own decisions about their medication.
Some people retain fluid after stopping a diuretic, and this may be the case here. But you have also developed a new symptom - the shortness of breath while playing golf. Though this may be related to excess fluid, it could mean that enough fluid is present to affect your breathing. Or this might be unrelated to stopping the maxide. This is another reason for you to contact your doctor and apprise him of your situation. In view of the new symptom, he might request that you come in for an evaluation.
