Q: Increasing Blood Pressure

I am 43, 185lbs, 6ft active, avoid salt, eat good, drink 2 cups coffie in the am, drink 4 to 5 drinks in the eve, life is not real stressful, have 3 indoor cats and a dog that effect my alergies. Over the last couple of years my blood pressure continues to elevate. I take 100 mg Toprol in the pm and 5mg lisinopril in the am. My blood pressure is on the high 160/110 droping to 140's/90's. It seems everytime I go to the doctor medication increase is the answer. Well ok. but when does it level out. Or do I just keep popping pills?

Hi Riding High,

 

I recommend you make a few diet and lifestyle changes to increase the effectiveness of your medication and promote a lower blood pressure.  For example, look into the DASH diet and incorporate.  Also, if you are drinking 4-5 alcoholic drinks most evenings this could be contributing to your elevated levels - consider reducing.
