Q: High normal BP to Normal BP

When I take my BP it starts off in the high normal range, then I take it again, two or three minutes later it's in the normal range, and then I take it two or three more times and drops a little lower.

When I go to the doctor, my BP goes up very high, then it comes down.  I take my BP at home a few weeks before I see the doctor every day, just to have idea of where my BP is on a regular basis, but every time I take it, it starts up high, then as I sit for awhile, it comes back to normal.

Hi Louise,

It's possible you are suffering from some form of white coat hypertension even when it's just you checking your blood pressure.  Maybe you are feeling stressed or anxious anticipating your blood pressure is going to be high which is why that first reading comes back elevated followed by subsequent lower readings.  Discuss the possibility with your physician.  Here is a link to information on white coat hypertension - http://www.healthcentral.com/high-blood-pressure/h/white-coat-hypertension-treatment.html

All the best,
