Blood pressure sky rocketed to 145/100 after taking Lisinopril for the first time. Is that normal?

I was just told I have pre-hypertension/stage 1 hypertension (BP was 140/90 in the office normally it's 120/80 or under at home) by a cardiologist I'm seeing for palpitations. She prescribed 10 mg of Lisinopril which I cut in half to see what my reaction would be. My pressure sky rocketed to 145/100 and I had every single side effect on the list the entire day. When I called her she told me to take the other 1/2 of the pill, which didn't do anything but make me more out of it. Is this a normal reaction for starting out? How long do the side effects last? I haven't taken it since.
