Q: Blood Pressure Meds aren't working

My husband recently was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure. He was given Benazapril 20mg.. BP was going up, doubled the dose to 40mg... went to urgent care after it wasn't lower. Dr. lowered the dose of Benazapril back to 20mg and is being taken with Metoprolol 25mg... (Benazapril in the morning, Metoprolol in evening)...This all has taken place within 4 days of diagnosed.. his blood pressure is steadily going higher and this morning was 196/104.

Should he go back to Urgent Care..Drs. office isn't open on week-ends or wait it out?

Hi Takastone,

I hope your husband and received care from his physician or the Urgent Care facility to treat his increasing blood pressure.  I encourage your husband to make diet and lifestyle changes to promote a lower blood pressure.  By doing so he'll increase the effectiveness of his blood pressure medication.  The DASH Diet is a great eating plan to lower blood pressure effectively.

All the best,
