Q: What causes a pain more like a burning sensation at the top (upper GI) between breast.

My father-in-law is having a severe pain which sometimes feels like a burning sensation  in the area between the breast, approximately 9 or 10 inches down from neck area sort of where pancreas or spleen are located. His gallbladder has been removed, he was recently admitted into the hospital for this and we're wondering if it isn't a rock in the GI duct or something more severe. We're still trying to get an appointment for him in Albuquerque, but he has not been called, this has been since last Friday, around the 10th. We also want to rule out pancreatis. Help.
