Q: Can green tea affect high blood pressure adversely?

I have started taking kelp and noticed an increase in my blood pressure, however I usually have a cup of green tea (nothing added) when I first get up in the morning. Because of the reaction to kelp I decided to do a profound check on my blood pressure every two hours. This morning I started at 146/75 P. 66 and two hours later after only having the green tea it was 169/97 P. 65. Was this caused by the green tea?

Hi Donna,

Here is a link to information on Health Central regarding green tea:

Green Tea Caffeine Content

Green tea does contain caffeine and may contribute to elevated blood pressure. You could monitor your blood pressure on a day when you do not drink green tea and compare the two days.
