grafidee,

Thanks for your question.  I'm sorry for your loss.

Your recent stress certainly could have an effect on your blood pressure, but your note mentions that you have been well until about a year ago.

From your question, it sounds like it is time to have a complete evaluation, not just to have your pressure checked, but also to a complete history, physical examination, EKG, baseline blood work (blood count, thyroid levels, general chemistry tests, urinalysis, and cholesterol panel).   You also have to be sure you're obtaining the necessary milestone studies as recommended by the American Cancer Society (mammograms, yearly rectal examinations and stool test for blood, and possibly others depending on your personal history).  You are at an age where early detection of problems can be easily treated and controlled before any damage to organs.

Even if your blood pressure is normal, you need to take a hard look at your diet and lifestyle.  Developing a regular exercise program will be beneficial to your pressure, your heart, cholesterol, bones and energy level.  I recommend you look at our website for dietary suggestions for a healthier future.  Certainly, less processed foods, lower sodium intake, and more fruits, nuts and vegetables would be best for you.

So contact your physician and schedule a full evaluation in the near future.

Best wishes.
