Q: I'm 61 & have always had low blood pressure,usually 100/60. 4 1/2 months ago I broke my back and neck but am healed now. My blood pressure rose and remained at average 145/85. What could this mean?

The breaks were caused in a horse riding accident and I was told that that was the cause of the rise in my blood pressure and it would go down in a little while. My neck is stiff and I can feel the 2 rods that were put in my back and I cannot carry heavy weights, but apart from that I've recovered well.

Hi Jan,

 

Yes, it's likely the sudden rise in blood pressure was related to your accident (pain can cause blood pressure spikes). However, since it has not returned to previous levels I encourage you to make a few diet/lifestyle changes to promote a lower blood pressure. Here's a post you may want to review:
