Lack of desire or inability to becomes sexually aroused.
Most blood pressure medications can reduce libido, but some are worse than others. The antihypertensives (blood pressure lowering medications) called beta-blockers are typically most disruptive of sexual function. These include metoprolol (Toprol or Lopressor), atenolol (Tenormin, carvedilol (Coreg), propranolol (Inderal), and nadolol (Corgard). Alternative antihypertensive agents less likely to interfere with sexual function include angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and diuretics. Enalapril (Vasotec), lisinopril (Prinivil and Zestril), captopril (Capoten), and ramipril (Altace) are all included in the ACE inhibitor class, and could possibly be reasonable alternatives for you. You should discuss these concerns with your doctor and see if you could try an alternative therapy.
